Water Recycling and Reuse

Zero liquid discharge (ZLD). ZLD removes all contaminants from wastewater and reduces them into a solid form of waste for easier and safer disposal. ZLD methods often recover materials for use in other facility applications, such as ammonium sulfate for fertilizer or sodium chloride for melting ice.
Reverse osmosis (RO). Reverse osmosis uses a composite film or other membrane to filter pressurized water to recover as much as 90% of water that would otherwise be sent into the sewage system. The pretreatment used for these processes also protects the filters from fouling, scaling, and degradation caused by organic agents, minerals, and chemicals.
Deionization/ion exchange. Using ion exchange resin columns, the deionization process filters water through a resin bed. Harmless ions, such as hydrogen or hydroxyl, are exchanged with contaminant ions in the wastewater, ultimately producing cleaner and reusable water.
